Antibiotic resistance is one of the greatest threats to global health. In the US, antibiotics are the most frequently prescribed medication to children. Choosing the most narrowly focused antibiotic is just as important as avoiding antibiotics for conditions in which they are not indicated. Understanding antibiotic resistance patterns relevant to your patient population is a key driver in choosing the most appropriate antibiotic. Currently, there is no statewide pediatric-specific antibiotic susceptibility data for the state of Georgia. Providing this data to pediatric providers will help improve prescribing practices. The Georgia Pediatric Antibiogram Project is the collaboration of the five children’s hospitals in Georgia to create a statewide antibiogram.

Content of this website

This website contains a link to an interactive tool that allows you to review the antibiotic susceptibility patterns for multiple antibiotics for commonly encountered bacteria and view this over time by hospital or combined for the state of Georgia.

In addition, this website contains links to a number of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines for common bacterial infections.

The antibiogram and antibiotic prescribing resources can be used together to help guide empiric antibiotic choice and recommended antibiotic durations for common bacterial infections in children.
